Nicholas James |
When I think of Nick, the phrase that comes to mind is "relaxed intensity." He clearly gives 150%, but no matter how well he's performing, there's always a sense that it's only the tip of the iceberg. That quality comes from blending his vast opera background (he's almost earned his Master's in the subject) with his metal heritage. The two bring forth a charismatic aura that lights up the stage -- it's really that meld of impeccable chops with an everyman quality that creates the mystique of the unexpected. More than once I've lost my place while playing because I've been compelled to listen to Nick's performance.
The only thing that tops his voice is his enthusiasm for music. He's as passionate about learning and performing as he is writing and rehearsing. There have been many times where a very difficult passage of music is written and we sheepishly turn to Nick and say, "what do you think about this?" His reply is the always intriguing, "I'll give it a shot..." consistently followed by flawless execution. Perhaps the most interesting element is that his influences are apparent, but he's never copying anyone -- he always retains his own unique voice and style. We're very fortunate to have someone as talented as Nick in this band and we're extremely excited to share that with our fans in our upcoming live shows and recordings.

Kevin Boenning |
I was always impressed with Kevin’s consummate musicianship and unique approach to guitar. He’s a workaholic, a perfectionist, always open to constructive criticism, and brings a constant source of idealism and optimism. Kevin’s unique guitar technique results in an almost pianistic two-hand tapping style. He now has a guitar vocabulary that is completely his own, and as a result, Kevin makes Concrete Prophet’s music inimitable.
As much as I respect his technical prowess I also respect his craftsmanship as a songwriter. I had never met another musician who studied as thoroughly or put as much thought in to the nuances of songwriting and arrangement. For any song composed by Kevin Boenning, there is a reason for every note and every rhythm, for every repetition and every variation. Whereas my definition of "progressive" has always been raw virtuosity and outright complexity, Kevin’s definition includes elegance, nuance, economy, and architecture.

The Power of Passen. This guy is a machine! He's got the chops, he's got the groove, and he's also got the musical theory to back it all up. Do yourselves a favor and see him perform live. Within a few moments he'll make you a believer, trust me.
Michael is very much the visionary of Concrete Prophet. He's a vocabulary powerhouse, capable of conveying his carefully pre-meditated ideas through a meaningful and contemporary lyrical style.
Apart from being a world class musician, he's also an extremely intelligent individual. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Towson University with a degree in music and is currently enrolled in a Masters program at Peabody Institute.

Dobbs |
Focused, determined, and highly musical. That is how I describe Brian Dobbs. His musical contributions to this ensemble are among the highest and most unique I’ve ever experienced. Most drummers who have all of the "bells and whistles" on their drum kits never seem to know how to use them, or have them there just for show. This is not the case with Brian; he truly has a grasp on his abilities as a percussionist and is able to use a variety of textures that only further enhances each of our songs.
Never have I seen a person so dedicated to fine tuning the details and overall experience of an ensemble such as this – it is truly an inspiration. Brian is also one of the most supportive musicians out there, as well as being highly dedicated to his craft. From providing half of the rhythmic backbone of Concrete Prophet to the creation of his own solo album, he has surely made his mark on the music scene.
